Support our letter writing campaign

The Weymouth Falls Community Land Trust (WFCLT) is urgently asking for letters of support to help us acquire the Mount Beulah Baptist Church. With four failed offers on the property, it is now time for us to ask for community support. We are asking ANYONE and EVERYONE who supports our attempt to acquire this property to write a letter!

The founder of our organization was on CBC’s Information Morning to discuss this extremely important acquisition opportunity. The individual who purchased our community monument in January 2023 for less than $5,000 is now trying to sell it for $59,900. The seller claims that they want to see the church restored for community benefit and if this is true, they would be working with us to ensure this property comes back to the community through the land trust. Listen to the full interview  with CBC here.

If we successfully acquire this site, our goal is to restore the building, maintain the burial site, and ensure that this parcel of land remains a public community space. The burial ground on the property dates back to at least the 1800’s, so no developments would be possible on that part of the property.

The church was one of the first 7 that was established by the African United Baptist Church in the 1800s and was featured in the National Film Board of Canada’s film ‘Seven Shades of Pale’. If you are interested in helping us acquire this property through a financial gift or otherwise, please email hello@weymouthfalls.ca
