Weymouth Falls Community Land Trust Announces Appointment of Shekara Grant as Executive Lead
Weymouth Falls, Nova Scotia – June 15, 2026 – Weymouth Falls Community Land Trust (WFCLT) is pleased to announce the appointment of Shekara Grant as the organization’s inaugural Executive Lead.
By virtue of becoming WFCLT’s first staff member, Shekara will guide the organization through its next phase of growth while advancing its mission of responsible land stewardship, climate resilience, and cultural heritage preservation in African Nova Scotian communities. This appointment marks an important milestone in the evolution of the organization and reflects its commitment to build a strong, community-led organization dedicated to stewarding land, preserving heritage, and reviving opportunities for current and future generations.
As an eighth-generation descendant of Weymouth Falls and the Founder and Immediate Past President of WFCLT, Shekara brings deep community roots, proven leadership, lived experience, and a steadfast commitment to the organization’s vision. Her unique combination of community knowledge, strategic insight, and dedication to sustainable development will help advance WFCLT’s long-term goals and impact.
In her role as Executive Lead, Shekara will provide strategic and operational leadership, strengthen partnerships, support effective governance, and advance the organization’s mission. She will serve as a key advocate and ambassador, bridging community knowledge, technical expertise, and institutional relationships to foster meaningful collaboration and lasting impact. Her leadership will help guide WFCLT through its next chapter of growth and community impact.
WFCLT’s work is rooted in ongoing collaboration with the Weymouth Falls community, with community knowledge, leadership, and lived experience guiding the organization’s decisions, priorities, and long-term direction. The Board of Directors recognizes this appointment as a significant step in the organization’s development. As its first staff leadership position, the Executive Lead will help build the systems, relationships, and organizational capacity needed to support long-term sustainability and community impact.
